Its a HP Compaq Business Desktop dc7800 - SFF - 1 x Core 2 Duo E6550 / 2.33 GHz - RAM 2 GB - HDD 1 x 160 GB - DVD - GMA 3100 - Gigabit Ethernet, prior to using the HDMI plug for the sapphire HD5450 there was no issue with the mic and headphone jacks either front or back. It states there is no audio component installed. The issue of the main C partion being 38GB and the E having the rest is worrying me, is there a way to push the C back up to a reasonable amount or is it fixed now and we need to unload the programs and re install them to the other partion. Although is this for the recovery portion and if so why so big. Another thread solved the audio problem, it was disabled in the bios, both front and rear jacks now works, the graphics card is being used through the VGA socket and therefore the quality is as good as expected.

The only issue and might be the main problem now is that the hard drive is at 2. 9GB (spaced it as it is two point nine), the E drive at 111GB is still empty and the C drive is in the red, it may be the bio shock program (game) and the catalyst/ati/amd software and updates that have filled the remaining C drive (unsure how much was on the C drive in the beginning).

Because it is not backing up, the restore points are only current events and previous points have disappeared after I tried going back to recover the sound driver, since there is only 2.9GB I dont want to create a point and find I have filled the remaining, same goes with the easeUS, I have a sata drive and could back up to that, but will this have an effect?, if i remember, the create a full windows image can be put on external storage but creating a bootable recovery disk may help or I am I looking at this the wrong way. Recently added, adobe reader XI, minecraft, steam (first part install of BIO SHOCK ULTIMATE) the AMD / Sapphire Radeon HD5450 catalyst software and subsequent downloads from AMD and software to detect hardware from AMD, HP, Intel etc. Is creating a partition an easy mistake to make? And as huggie54 has suggested, can the partition be easily shrunk. I get the feeling that unloading bioshock and minecraft and reinstalling them and any future downloads to the E drive is the only option. To get over the initial problem of a full partition - what advice is best for the way to find out what is filling the partion, would a defrag help, should i do a full windows image backup to the external drive i have?

As mentioned above - unfortuanetly it is a refurbished pc bought through Amazon, I have sent an email to the supplier to ask about the COA and a recovery disk (the sticker on the side appears to be for a vista - as it is refurbed it was to be expected), it did not occur to me to create the recovery disk or back it up before giving it my son, I had my own issues with work to contend with - so its the 'bolt the gate after the horse has gone' sinerio.

I dont expect a reply over the COA - nor can I do a fresh install - no disk supplied - I assume it is a reseller of business pc's and they have a OEM copy only - but I will see. If it is a cracked copy I will be very annoyed and will need to get a legal copy as well for the AMD 4200 I have. If it was bought refurbished from Amazon, it should have 2 - COA stickers on it - the original one (which shows the Windows version when it was new) and the refurbished one (which shows the windows version when it was refurbished). Some refurbished computers come with a reinstall Windows disc and some come with a built-in system recovery partition. I've bought all my refurbished desktops from Newegg and OverStock, so I can't comment on what condition they come from Amazon. Latest, apart from then finding out after dismantling an old pc that it is possible to create a system restore disk on a USB - deep joy, and having dismantled and was going to create a tempory flying lead with an old white nylon -PCI 4 pin plug a bit of terminal block and cut the floppy disk drive power lead of the sata power cable, removed the RW rom etc.

I phone the company - aparently the licence is under a group licence wher the amazon order number is supplied to the company and they would access the pc to fix the problem (would not be happy with that, a fresh licence would be required to be bought if the fault is terminal). They confirmed they created the small C drive for the win 7, and the E drive for downloaded software etc, the service guy suggested I copied the whole of C to the external hard drive and copied it back to the E drive, and delete all the items not needed from C, so I am doing a full windows image of the C drive to the external drive and then doing a copy of the C drive to a folder on the external again as he suggested before copying it over to the E drive and then deleting the over fill. We are going to uninstall the games and steam application before we do any copying and may uninstall the graphics cards software to reduce the copy over as well. Reduced the programs down to the basic and it went down to 20.8GB from 37.1GB, adobe reinstalled back onto the C drive so I cannot remember what the current value is. Currently reinstalling the software back on the E drive now so not really impressed with how the pc was set up, should be the clients choice to partion the drive or if this is the way a win 7 should be done, then at least have a big notice attached to say that is what is recommended. Hopefully we will be able to mark this solved soon - depends what else I can mess up. Best regards.
